Olivas Rocks assisted The Youth Ocean Development Project with establishing their 501(c)3 status, designed their corporate structure, provided guidance with organizational governance, and will provide funding resource services.
The Youth Ocean Discovery Project was conceived by its founder, Jose Olivas. Born and raised in the southern desert of Arizona, to a lower-middle class family, the idea of ocean activity was non-existent. Through luck and chance opportunities, he was afforded the possibility to travel and experience the ocean via scuba. After the life altering ocean realm experience it became his goal to help introduce landlocked individuals to the oceans through scuba.
He believes such an experience can be educational, motivational, and inspirational to everyone who engages in scuba diving. After speaking to individuals in the education professional, Jose decided to focus on teens between 14 and 19 years old. It is within this demographic that such an experience could benefit in the most rewarding and positive way. Since its inception Jose has dedicated hundreds of hours and significant financial expense toward continued scuba education, both in classroom and subaqueous. Recently he acquired his PADI Open Water Instructor certification in order to provide a greater benefit to the organization and its participants.
